2021 Caffeinated Trends

With 2021 officially here, trends within the coffee industry are continuing to grow and change.

Curious about the coffee trends we’ve been keeping an eye on? Join us below as we highlight a few!

·      Ready to Drink (RTD) Coffees

o   The only thing better than coffee? Coffee that can be easily taken on the go! Ready to drink coffee makes it easy for coffee lovers to grab a quick caffeine boost no matter where they are.

·      Increased Demand for Specialty Coffee

o   More and more consumers are looking to buy specialty coffee – both at the coffee shop and when shopping for coffee to enjoy at home. In 2021, consumers will be willing to pay more money for better coffee, especially for coffees that support social causes. At SIPS, we sell various coffee grinders you can use in your space to get a fresh specialty brew every time: https://sipsusa.com/equipment.

·      Increased Demand for Single Serve Cups

o   Many consumers are shifting away from traditional drip brewers, both at home and in the office. This is driving the increase for single serve cups. Single serve machines allow each cup to be customized to the drinker – size, strength, flavor – you name it!

·      Coffee Subscriptions

o   Having gained heightened popularity due to the pandemic, many are choosing to have their coffee delivered directly to them, on a schedule they choose. Coffee subscriptions allow consumers to select which coffee varieties they prefer and have them appear on their doorstep or at their office every month.

·      Cold Coffee Year-Round (Nitro Cold Brew, Cold Brew)

o   Nitro cold brew is infused with nitrogen after the cold brew process. In turn, the nitrogen adds a smoother feel to the coffee, creating a velvety foam at the top while also adding a richer and nuttier flavor.

o   Just like it sounds, cold brew is served exactly how it’s made: cold-steeped coffee grounds filtered and poured over ice.

5 Tips To Keep Your Establishment Top Of Mind

With the changing the consumer landscape, we are here to provide you with ways in which you can keep your business top of mind!

 1. Offer gift card bonuses – often used around the holidays, offer customers an extra bang for their buck by including a bonus with every gift card purchase.

2. Host a virtual seminar or Q&A – all businesses have at least one thing they excel at and someone who does it best. Work with a team member, such as a barista or chef, for a virtual Q&A where consumers can tune in and learn. Utilizing platforms such as Instagram and Facebook Live will allow you to engage with your audience in real time.

3. Be honest and transparent – We’re all living in a state of the unknown right now, so be honest with your customers about where you’re at through communication channels such as email and social media! Explain the extra steps you’re taking to keep employees and customers safe and anything that may be changing with business due to current circumstances.

4. Position yourself as a community player – Partner with other businesses in the area to offer more for your community! Bring your goods or services to local emergency response teams, doctors’ offices and hospitals or even offices.

5. Surprise and delight – Throw in something extra with every purchase or order. It could be something related to the times we’re going through now (free toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer) or could be something extra (free $5 gift card, free dessert, etc.). Now is the time to make an impression on your customers and let them know you’re here for them.

Keep Your Machine In Its Prime With Preventative Maintenance

When it comes to maintaining your espresso machines and equipment, there is more to it than the standard repair. The key is to get in front of the problem before it becomes a problem. The answer? SIPS Preventative maintenance.

Preventative maintenance starts with everyday care provided by the barista! Espresso machines must be cleaned after every use. Coffee and espresso beans contain natural oils that may cause buildup in various parts of your machine. As it is frequently used, this buildup can cause unwanted flavors in your espresso. The key to preventing this is making sure the buildup does not have a chance to form – by cleaning the machine after each and every use!

  • After each shot

    • Clean shower screen

      • Use a damp cloth

  • Purge and wipe the steam wand

    • Use a damp cloth

    •  **keep the cloths for each part of the machine sperate

  • After a few shots

    • Quickly flush the machine by running a water shot through it

    • Scrub shower screen

  • At the end of the day

    • Full backflush

    • Add detergent to blind filter

    • Turn on for a few seconds, turn off and repeat two times

    • Loosen portafilter and turn on

    • Clean shower screen with warm, soapy water
